After years of neglect, the City of Jacksonville, Project for Public Spaces, and HDR, Inc. are teaming up to develop a master plan that brings life and activity back to Jacksonville's original "Central Park." Today, Metro Jacksonville shares a few of the concepts being considered by park planners.

Soul Release, the seminal event that is most identified with the boom era of Main Street in Springfield has finally returned home, ironically enough at 9th and Main. Tiffany Duhart and Emanuel Washington are back up and running at KrisTee's Jazz Club.

This is the kind of news that Springfield's beleaguered Main Street needs, and with the completion of the Main Street Project rapidly approaching, the timing couldn't be better.

Will it be enough to jumpstart Main Street's Night Life?

It's one of the most talked about topics at the water cooler - the Jaguars - and their ticket sales woes. Up to this point, the Jaguars have yet to even be close to selling out any of their home games, and most likely will not for the rest of the year. It seems every national media outlet has had at least one writer take a shot at Jacksonville for the lack of ticket sales.

Today, Metro Jacksonville continues its seven part series discussing the Jaguars and the Jacksonville Market, and how they compare to other NFL cities.

This small but important church has a unique place in Jacksonville's History. It was the first African American Episcopal Church in the city, for one. Its founder, Freeman Young, was a character who stepped straight out of the adventure tales of the 19th Century, and its designer was none other than Henrietta Dozier, Jacksonville's fabled Great Lady of Architecture, whose career stood as a testament both to her character and to the character of the city that welcomed her.

Join us as we discuss the history of this incredible symbol of Jacksonville's liberal and sometimes startling past, and see the church in person in DVI's Downtown Historic Church Tour 2009.

Over the years, in an effort to find a way to revitalize downtown, new master plans, task forces, and studies under various administrations have been created, replacing many that were never implemented for an array of reasons. With so much public money invested in these abandoned studies, it may be time to dust off a few of these forgotten plans and rediscover the many brilliant ideas that never made it to reality.

Eu Magazine has a long and unique viewpoint on Jacksonville's music scene. The current incarnation of the magazine, helmed by the Henley Family is the heir of decades of music intensive archives compiled by its previous iterations as The Entertainer and The Northeast Entertainer.

Over the decades, the publication has chronicled the careers of thousands of local musicians (and theater productions and so much more) both great and small.

Here is a short essay from our fellow publication on local music:

Here is looking forward to a whole lot more from the archives of EU!

In downtown, at least one landowner seems to have gotten the right idea about creating street traffic, and excitement through density, and that is Chris Hionides' Petra Management Company.

Directed by his dynamic son in law, Rich Trendel, Petra has made a landmark contribution to the nightlife of the downtown by supporting and helping to develop such entertainment based institutions as London Bridge for years, but in the past year Trendel seems to have found some momentum.

The Springfield Historic District is well known for its diverse mix of single family residential structures.
For all those who believe an integrated transit system with multiple modes doesn't make sense, don't tell that to Washington, DC. Already blessed with the Amtrak Acela, a subway and commuter rail, the capitol city has an agressive plan underway to add 37 miles of streetcar routes to the region's transit mix.
